Occupation Ceilings for the 2019-20 Skill Migration Program
Occupation ceiling is a mechanism used by the Department of Immigration to prevent a small number of occupations from dominating the annual migration program.
Occupation ceilings are intended to avoid over-supply of skilled workers in any occupation group
Occupation ceilings apply to the following visas:
- Skilled Independent visa(subclass 189 )
- Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (class SR) (subclass 489)
Each occupation unit group ( with the first 4 digits of ANZSCO) has an occupation ceiling based on factors such as the current participation of the workforce, the projected growth of the industry and the replacement of workers leaving the workforce. For each occupation group, the minimum ceiling is 1000.
No additional invitations can be given for the above visa subclasses once an occupation group has reached its threshold.
For the following subclasses of visas, occupation ceilings do not apply:
- Business Talent (subclass 132)
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187).
- Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa(Class SN) (subclass 489)
- Skilled Nominated (subclass 190)
- Business Innovation and Investment (subclass 188)
- Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186)
