Recruitment Consultant interviews applicants to determine their job requirements and suitability for particular jobs, and assists employers to find suitable staff.
Recruitment consultants may perform the following tasks:
- interview people looking for work, and record relevant personal and work details to match them with appropriate jobs
- receive and record job vacancy information from employers
- organise advertising, interviewing and selection processes for recruitment campaigns
- conduct and analyse psychometric tests
- interview job seekers and prepare shortlists of candidates for referral to prospective employers
- check references and suitability of applicants before referring to employers
- prepare resumes and correspondence for suitable applicants to forward to employers
- advise job seekers regarding personal presentation at interviews and about their written applications and resumes
- arrange appropriate training in job skills
- assist with sales and marketing duties designed to increase the client base, including visiting employers to assess working conditions and discuss consultancy services and fees
- observe jobs to obtain information about job requirements
- prepare job descriptions and letters of appointment
- prepare rosters and duty statements, as well as organise security passes and identification.
This occupation belongs to Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) . STSOL consists of the list of the occupations which are high in demand in Australia. If you want to apply for Australia sponsored Permanent Residency (subclass 190) your occupation must be listed in the relevant STSOL list and you must have an invitation/sponsorship from the state government. This list is also a part of the Australia Point system. If eligible, you can live and work in Australia for an indefinite period of time.

Recruitment Consultant is classified as Group B occupations by Vetassess. The criteria for skills assessment of Group B occupations are the following :
- Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
- Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with an additional qualification at least Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Diploma level in a highly relevant field of study and at least two years of post qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
- Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree without a highly relevant field of study and at least three years of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years;
According to Vetassess, if you have pre-qualification employment and if all of your employment is before your qualification assessed at the AQF bachelor degree level , you are required to have five years of highly relevant employment in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years.
