Massage Therapist performs therapeutic massage and administers body treatments for relaxation, health, fitness and remedial purposes.
Massage therapists may perform the following tasks:
- take a case history and assess the client's physical condition
- massage the soft tissues of the human body, such as muscles, tendons and ligaments, to assist healing
- assess and treat specific injuries and other soft tissue dysfunction, and provide rehabilitation advice
- administer treatments to promote relaxation, improve blood circulation and relieve muscle tension
- use a range of techniques to enhance sports performance and prevent injury
- provide advice about stretching exercises and relaxation techniques.
This occupation belongs to Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) . STSOL consists of the list of the occupations which are high in demand in Australia. If you want to apply for Australia sponsored Permanent Residency (subclass 190) your occupation must be listed in the relevant STSOL list and you must have an invitation/sponsorship from the state government. This list is also a part of the Australia Point system. If eligible, you can live and work in Australia for an indefinite period of time.

- Qualification(s) assessed at least AQF Diploma level with a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
- Qualification(s) assessed at least AQF Diploma level with an additional qualification at least AQF Certificate IV in a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
- Qualification(s) assessed at least AQF Diploma level without a highly relevant field of study and at least two years of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years;
According to Vetassess, if you have pre-qualification employment and if all of your employment is before your qualification assessed at the AQF diploma level), three years of highly relevant employment in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment completed in the last five years..
