Mixed Crop and Livestock Farmer plans, organises, controls, coordinates and performs farming operations to both grow crops and to breed and raise livestock.

Mixed Crop and Livestock Farmer may perform the following tasks:

• planning and coordinating the production and marketing of crops and livestock
• breeding and raising livestock for the production of meat, wool, skins, milk or eggs, and growing grain, seed crops, vegetables, fruit or nuts
• monitoring and maintaining the health and condition of livestock
• providing pastures and fodder to maintain appropriate nutritional levels
• selecting and purchasing seed for planting, planning and implementing breeding programs
• directing and overseeing general farming activities such as fertilising, and pest and weed control
• maintaining farm buildings, fences, equipment and water supply systems
• organising the sale, purchase and transportation of livestock and produce
• maintaining and evaluating records of farming activities, monitoring market activity and planning production accordingly
• managing business capital, monitoring market activity and planning production accordingly
• may select, train and supervise staff and contractors

Mixed Crop and Livestock Farmer is classified as Group B occupations by Vetassess. The criteria for skills assessment of Group B occupations are the following :

• Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
• Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with an additional qualification at least Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Diploma level in a highly relevant field of study and at least two years of post qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
• Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree without a highly relevant field of study and at least three years of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years;

According to Vetassess, if you have pre-qualification employment and if all of your employment is before your qualification assessed at the AQF bachelor degree level , you are required to have five years of highly relevant employment in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years.
