Human Resource Adviser provides staffing and personnel administration services in support of an organisation's human resource policies and programs.

Human resources officers may perform the following tasks:

  • determine staffing numbers, skills and needs to meet the organisation's objectives
  • analyse the skills and qualities required for each particular job and develop job descriptions and duty statements
  • advertise staff vacancies, assess applications, interview applicants, administer selection tests, prepare reports and make recommendations to management about staff appointments
  • maintain the personal records of employees on matters such as wages, superannuation, leave and training, and prepare associated management reports
  • arrange and conduct staff training
  • use a number of management information systems to record, maintain, plan and manage the organisation's human resources
  • provide advice and information to management and employees on human resource policies and procedures, including equal opportunity, anti-discrimination and occupational health and safety programmes
  • assist employees with work matters, career development, personal problems and industrial matters
  • organise employee welfare services such as health and wellbeing programmes, first aid and fire warden training, superannuation and social activities
  • take part in enterprise bargaining talks where employees, management and unions discuss the development of specific work arrangements and conditions (pay and hours of work, for example)
  • help implement organisational changes (such as those following from industrial relations legislation, revised job classification structures or technological changes)
  • take part in strategic management.

This occupation belongs to Regional Occupation List (ROL). Regional Occupation List consists of the list of the occupations which are high in demand in regional states and territories of Australia.

Human Resource Adviser is classified as Group B occupations by Vetassess. The criteria for skills assessment of Group B occupations are the following :

  • Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
  • Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree with an additional qualification at least Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Diploma level in a highly relevant field of study and at least two years of post qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
  • Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree without a highly relevant field of study and at least three years of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years;

According to Vetassess, if you have pre-qualification employment and if all of your employment is before your qualification assessed at the AQF bachelor degree level, you are required to have five years of highly relevant employment in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years.
