Flight Attendant provides services for the safety and comfort of aircraft passengers.
Flight attendants may perform the following tasks:
- conduct pre-flight cabin checks
- check boarding passes and direct passengers to seats
- advise passengers of safety regulations
- distribute reading material and serve meals and drinks
- provide first aid treatment and assist sick passengers
- anticipate and provide for the comfort of passengers needing special attention, including unaccompanied children, parents with infants, people with disability, the elderly and non-English-speaking passengers
- take action in the event of decompression, turbulence, mechanical malfunction or unlawful acts by passengers
- prepare for emergency landings and the evacuation of passengers.
This occupation belongs to Regional Occupation List (ROL). Regional Occupation List consists of the list of the occupations which are high in demand in regional states and territories of Australia.

Flight Attendant is classified as Group D occupations by Vetassess. The criteria for skills assessment of Group D occupations are the following:
- Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Certificate IV with a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment completed in the last five years;Or
- Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Certificate IV without a highly relevant field of study and at least two years of post-qualification highly relevant employment completed in the last five years;Or
- Qualification(s) assessed at AQF Certificate III with a highly relevant field of study and at least three years of post-qualification highly relevant employment completed in the last five years;
According to Vetassess, if you have pre-qualification employment and if all of your employment is before your qualifications assessed at the AQF Certificate III or Certificate IV level), three years of highly relevant employment in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years.
